1.1 Information you provide
- Account data: college email address, password hash, campus affiliation, and profile details such as name, bio, avatar, major, and graduation year.
- Listing & transaction data: product details you publish, photos, prices, order history, handoff confirmation events, messages, and related support tickets.
- Payment data: payment processing is handled by third-party providers (such as Stripe). We do not store full card numbers on Swap servers.
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Device information (type, OS version, app version)
- Usage data and interaction patterns within the app
- Approximate campus-area location for service localization
- Log data: IP address, access times, crash reports, push-notification tokens when enabled
2. How we use information
- Create and secure student accounts verified by institutional email
- Operate marketplace browsing, messaging, and transactions
- Provide escrow-style payment protection and deposit handling
- Send service emails and optional push or marketing communications (with your consent)
- Respond to support requests and enforce platform safety rules
- Detect fraud, improve reliability, and comply with applicable law
3. Information sharing
We may share information with:
- Other users, to the extent required for a trade (e.g. profile name, avatar, listing content, ratings, and chat messages you send).
- Service providers that help us host infrastructure, send email, store media, process payments, or analyze reliability.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
4. Data security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted transport (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access controls for administrative systems, and secure payment processing via Stripe. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

We retain account and transaction records for as long as needed to operate the marketplace, resolve disputes, meet legal obligations, and maintain audit history for completed trades. After account deletion, certain transaction records may be retained in de-identified form where required for financial and dispute handling.

- Delete your account and associated data

8. Children’s privacy
Swap is intended for university students aged 18 and older with institutional email accounts. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a minor, please contact us immediately.
